In this month’s meeting of the Ojai Valley Amateur Radio Club (OVARC), we explored the potential for GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) capabilities in our valley. This included a detailed discussion about the ongoing installation of our GMRS repeater and the advantages it will bring to local communication efforts. We also provided guidance on selecting the best radios for members looking to get started or upgrade their equipment, ensuring everyone is well-prepared to make the most of our expanding capabilities.
We were also pleased to welcome a visiting ham operator from Ventura who expressed interest in expanding their emergency preparedness efforts through GMRS. We discussed various ways to connect the Oxnard plain to Simi Valley through a potential repeater.
Additionally, we focused on enhancing our digital presence, including updates and improvements to our website, ovarc.org, and the growth of our LinkedIn page as a platform to connect with members and the broader community.
Join us at our next meeting on Feb. 15th at 8:00 am at the Arc of Ventura!
