The Ojai Police Department Emergency Operations Center AM Broadcast Station is located in the EOC room along with our other EOC radios. The AM broadcast station operates on 1610 kHz on the upper end of your AM radio band. The transmitter is located on top of a water tank on the West end of Ojai. During an emergency the station will broadcast alerts and emergency information. During non-emergency the station broadcasts information on what to do during an earthquake or fire and general information on what you need to have ready during an emergency. Try tuning to 1610 kHz on your AM radio and see if you can hear the station.
On 16 April 2025 Stephen from the Ojai Valley Amateur Radio Club donated a UPS unit with a spare battery to use with the AM station. This way if the power goes down at the PD the AM station will remain on the air. I installed the UPS unit in the PD on 17 April 2025 and reset the AM station to broadcast three general announcements.
